The 2017 SPUR Cape Town International Schools Hockey Festival
Hockey Festival

A raging success but are you coming to the Mother City in 2018 / 2019?

The 2017 edition of this wonderful u18 schools hockey festival was a highlight for many hockey scholars from across the globe with 47 teams playing for the prestigious titles. We are extremely grateful to all our international teams from the UK, Zimbabwe and Namibia for adding massive value to our festival. All our local SA schools teams love participating against our visitors from abroad, so THANK YOU.

There have also been superb improvements to the technical aspects of the festival such as the appointment of Umpires Manager – Brendan Kieswetter – who managed the process with aplomb. The other additional technical element which we are proud of was the enthusiastic ETA students who managed the tech tables at the ten venues across the Cape Town Metropole very professionally.

A special mention to the boys’ team from Merchant Taylors (UK) who finished a credible 6th overall – who lost in the quarter final to the eventual winners – Paul Roos Gymnasium. The girls from Chisipite (Zimbabwe) dazzled the crowds with their breath-taking counter attacking style and we look forward to them returning in 2018 to go one step further and compete for that gold medal!

Entries have opened for the 16th annual Cape Town u18 International Schools Hockey Festival for boys’ and girls’ first teams that takes place from July 17 to 22 next year. A number of top overseas and local entries have already confirmed their participation in the 2018 showpiece which bodes well for the festival’s continued high standards.
